Oakbrook Dental was such a great experience. When I first stepped foot into the office, Kim and Judy had a smile on their face and greeted me so kindly. I then met my dental assistant Laura who made me feel very relaxed and calm at my visit. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole appointment which I very much appreciate being as anxious as I am. I then met Dr. Patel who was amazing. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she does and she made me feel very comfortable as well. I would recommend OakBrook Dental to everyone I know! :)

What Are Dental Crowns & Bridges?

Dental crowns are false teeth that are designed to fit over damaged teeth, cover them up, and protect them from further damage. They are usually made of ceramic porcelain materials, and are designed to look and feel completely natural.

Bridges use two dental crowns, which attach to your healthy teeth and support one or more “pontics” (false teeth). These false teeth “bridge” the gap where your missing teeth used to be, restoring your smile and your bite.

The Process For Receiving Crowns Or Bridges

The process for receiving a crown or bridge usually takes about 2-3 weeks, and will require at least 2 appointments at our office. After you’ve been confirmed as a good candidate for a crown or bridge, you’ll come into our office to have your teeth prepared.

Dr. Patel or Dr. Major will clean and numb your mouth, then trim one or more of your teeth to remove decayed and damaged material, and prepare for crowns or bridges. Once the teeth have been trimmed, they will take impressions of your teeth, and attach a temporary crown or bridge to protect your teeth.

Using these impressions, a third-party dental lab will create your crown or bridge. Your crown or bridge will be custom-built to fit into your mouth perfectly and restore your smile and your bite. It will arrive at our office in 2-3 weeks.

Once your crown or bridge is complete, you’ll come back to Oakbrook Dental, and Dr. Major or Dr. Patel will check it to ensure it fits properly. If it looks good, it will be permanently attached with dental cement, completing the procedure and restoring your smile.

Aftercare For Crowns & Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges have no recovery period. You can get back to your normal diet and day-to-day routine immediately. Crowns also require no special care. You should care for your crown just like a normal tooth by brushing and flossing.

Dental bridges require slightly more care. You will need to brush between your bridge and your gums with an interdental brush, and floss it to remove food particles and debris. Dr. Major or Dr. Patel will provide you with more detailed care instructions after your appointment.
